Benefits of Meditation

Most of us are well aware of meditation’s many scientifically-proven benefits and probably feel that we’re already doing our best to maintain a regular practice, but I nevertheless want to remind you of not only some of the physical and emotional benefits but also mention a couple of others that can support energetic transformation.

Just a few of the well-know, indubitably proven physical benefits include:
  • Improved sleep
  • Reduced sensitivity to pain
  • Reduced cellular inflammation
  • Increased gray matter and cognitive function
  • Lowered blood pressure and improved circulation
  • Increased immune function
  • Increased levels of serotonin and other beneficial chemicals

Likewise, some of the mental and emotional benefits include:
  • Reduced stress and stress-related conditions
  • Reduced anxiety and depression
  • Increased optimism, positivity, and compassion
  • Increased awareness, focus, concentration, and memory
  • Increased willpower and impulse control
  • Increased creativity and intuition

And there appears to be a cumulative effect.

I once heard my teacher describe the practice of RCT as “going hand in hand to visit God”, and I believe we do something similar in meditation by allowing ourselves to sink below the surface of the turbulent waves of the mind to access the calm depths of our true self. While many religions do incorporate meditative or contemplative practices, that the techniques themselves are simple, non-religious practices that anyone can do, including kids.

Because the work I do accelerates healing (and by healing I mean an increased connection to our highest self), it can tend to bring up emotion and their associated thoughts for us to process, and hence, any practice which can help us to abide in our calm depths can be highly beneficial, and it seems that meditation can also be an excellent aid for balancing and opening the chakras.

If you already have a practice that works for you, great, otherwise here’s one to consider, and 15-20 minutes a day seems to be a common recommendation. (Whichever method you practice--and it need not be fancy--it also seems to work best to find one type and stick with it.) There are, of course, scads of meditation apps; I happen to like the Insight Timer. And if you aspire to a daily practice but find you’d rather ”be thrown into a shark-infested ocean”, please consider this article.

I’ve come to find the practice of meditation so beneficial to the integration of this work that I’m going to add it to my recommendations, and I hope you’ll consider picking up the practice if you haven’t already. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch if this (or any) tip raises questions for you, and, as always, I wish you calm abiding on your journey.

With Love,
Colin
