The Sixth Chakra
You undoubtedly know your sixth chakra as your “third eye.” Its Sanskrit name is Ajna (AHN-yah), meaning "to perceive," and it’s located between the brows. Its developmental stage begins ceaselessly at age 12, its color is indigo, its element is light, its themes are sight, intuition, wisdom, clarity, inspiration, realization, and non-dualistic consciousness, and its shadow is illusion. It governs our eyes, ears, sinuses, five senses, and pituitary gland.
With an open and balanced Ajna we feel imaginative, insightful, intuitive, clear, and visionary, with good dream recall. An overactive third eye might lead to trouble sorting truth from fiction, delusion, hallucination, or difficulty concentrating, and an underactive to poor dream recall, poor memory, denialism, an underactive imagination, difficulty visualizing, or insensitivity.
Activities to open the sixth chakra might include cupping your palms over your eyes, an affirmation such as, “I trust my inner wisdom,” or chanting “Om,” Ajna’s seed sound.
May we align with the light of consciousness and attune to our senses, our visions, our wisdom, our inspiration, and our imagination.
